Maybe it’s the crackle of the fire, the smell of something hearty in the oven, or the clink of a glass behind the bar - whatever it is, it just feels right to be here.

Whether you’re settling in for the evening, joining us for dinner in 1657, or finding a sunny spot out back by the river, we’ll make sure you leave feeling even better than when you joined us.

At The White Lion, we have two dining spaces to suit your occasion. Enjoy the refined, atmospheric ‘1657’ - our signature restaurant room, or savour our comforting gastro-pub classics in the bar. All home-made with local, seasonal ingredients.

Useful info

  • We have a free car-park available for guests of the restaurant and hotel.

    It is located to the left of our front door, simply follow the cobbled lane.

    If we are full, here is a list of the nearest pay and display car parks:

    • Market Place Car Park (1 min walk)

    • Garden Street Car Park (3 min walk)

    • St Pol Square Car Park (3 min walk)

  • Dogs are very welcome in our bar area. We have free dog treats and also purchasable meals and snacks, even doggy beer!

    Four of our hotel rooms are perfect for pets to stay, each with their own front door access. Our other rooms and suites can accommodate dogs for an additional cleaning fee to ensure they are allergen free for future guests.

  • In short, yes.

    Our chefs are fully trained in dealing with different needs, and our menu offers Vegan, Vegetarian, and Gluten Free options.

  • Weekends tend to get busy, but we try to hold tables for walk-ins. You can always drop us a call to find out how busy we are.
